Grupo Oncomet. Nano-oncology unit (IDIS)

Description

The main objective of the Nano-Oncology Unit is to explore innovative strategies, based on the application of nanotechnology, to develop more efficient and safe therapies, and new tools for advanced diagnosis of the disease. The patient is at the center of the research, and the critical points for the technology to reach the clinic are taken into account from the very early stages of development.

Its activity can be summarized in the following points:

  • Design and evaluation of new nanotherapies and nanoimmunotherapies to achieve more effective and safe treatments, and interfere with the formation of metastasis and disease progression.
  • Development of new diagnostic tools for molecular imaging based on nanotechnology. The objective is to diagnose the presence of small groups of tumor cells that will give rise to the formation of metastases.
  • Application of own technology in other areas of knowledge. As nanomedicine is a transversal science, our technology also has a potential application for other diseases, and that is why we are also open to contributing to other areas of medicine, such as the search for new treatments for rare diseases, regenerative medicine, or microbiology.
  • Biodegradable and biocompatible nanoparticles for the release of aptamers with antitumor properties
  • Study of TAS1R3 as a biomarker of tumor stem cells and application for the development of new therapeutic strategies using nanotechnology
  • APTALUNG: Lung cancer diagnosis using aptamer technology. Applications in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and in aptahistochemistry
